Our approach to restoration is guided by the natural ecosystem processes that thrive in a given environment, not solely by the ability to generate sellable credits or offsets. That's why we prioritize environmental outcomes and then translate them into the most suitable natural capital unit for investment.

Natural capital units encompass various types, including biodiversity net gain units (in England), carbon credits, natural flood management units, nitrate & phosphate units.

Each unit is governed by specific methodologies, such as, in the UK, the Woodland Carbon Code, Peatland Carbon Code, Biodiversity Net Gain (in England), or accredited methodologies at internationally recognised registries like Verra, Plan Vivo, and Gold Standard. 

At Great Yellow, our initial listings feature projects offering UK-specific natural capital units, for voluntary investment by institutional investors.

Your investment goes to the project directly, with a small commission fee going to Great Yellow. 

Project developers use the funds you invest to cover their development and maintenance costs over time.

Great Yellow puts the commission fee toward managing and vetting market participants, building and improving our product, and of course developing our team.

Our project scope targets high distinctiveness, landscape-scale restoration programs generating a broad outcome of environmental services.

Additionally, we thoroughly assess the profile of the project developer, evaluating their track record, motivations, and capabilities to ensure successful execution of each project.

 We're named after the Great Yellow bumblebee: the largest and one of the most endangered species of UK bumblebee. Once found across the UK, they are now limited to the very North of Scotland - pushed north by climate change and habitat degradation. There is a view that, if average temperatures rise by more than the 1.5 degree C limit set by the Paris Accord, the Great Yellow will be forced out of the UK entirely, so it is an exemplar of the human impact on both nature and the wider environment.
