Why data integrity is the foundation of nature finance at scale

Great Yellow partners with Treeconomy

The nature finance gap is real, it's large, and closing it requires us to move faster. Capital is flowing and demand is building, but speed without integrity is worse than no speed at all.

Nascent markets like soil carbon and biodiversity credits are at a point where integrity will make or break the market: the projects, datasets, and verification processes that hold up are the ones that unlock serious institutional capital and set the standard everyone else follows. That's the opportunity we're building towards at Great Yellow.

It's also why our new partnership with Treeconomy matters.

What started as a design collaboration alongside the UK Space Agency-funded Project ALAN (Accelerated Landscape Assessment for Nature Investments) has now become a significant commercial deal. We're licensing Treeconomy's Due Diligence Tool and biomass models across our project portfolio, and the practical difference is immediate.

Site screening costs down by around 80%. Decision timelines moving from months to days. Granular, 10m-resolution biomass data with nine years of historical benchmarking behind it, building a defensible baseline for every asset we work on.

For our woodland carbon projects, this is a step change. The Woodland Carbon Code requires rigorous, verified baselines, and having that data foundation in place from day one means we can move from project identification to registration at a pace that wasn't possible before. This brings a material commercial advantage for every project in our pipeline.

Great Yellow’s ecosystem approach

Great Yellow’s model is rooted in effective collaboration. We connect ambitious nature recovery projects with the investors and outcome buyers who can fund them, bringing together expertise across all three sectors to deliver landscape-scale regeneration. We find the best tools, the best partners, and build the right infrastructure together.

Treeconomy are that kind of partner. Together with Project ALAN, we stress-tested their technology against the specific demands of institutional nature finance – the Investment Committee workflows, the need for standardised datasets, the requirement for third-party verifiable evidence. They delivered. This commercial deal is the result.

What this means for the people we work with
For nature recovery projects

Better data means stronger project design documents, faster verification, and a credible story to tell investors and buyers. You shouldn't have to choose between moving quickly and doing it properly.

For project investors

The data layer Treeconomy provides is what makes landscape-scale assets underwritable. Standardised, satellite-derived, historically benchmarked baselines are how you build the trust that unlocks large capital.

For outcome buyers

The integrity of the credits you're purchasing starts here. On-ground data collection remains the primary source, and Treeconomy's tools complement and strengthen that evidence base rather than substitute it. That distinction matters, and it's one we're deliberate about.

Closing the nature finance gap demands that we move faster without compromising on integrity. That's a design requirement. And it's what this partnership is built around.

Treeconomy's Due Diligence Tool and biomass models are now licensed across Great Yellow's portfolio.
